Lorenzo Luchessi was born into one of the oldest of families in Saint Delphine Parish shortly after Reconstruction. The Luchessi bloodline carried influence quietly land ownership, funeral services, medical practice, and private religious scholarship hidden behind generations of silence. The estate itself had belonged to his family long before Lorenzo’s birth.People claimed the marsh surrounding the property was cursed. Children were warned never to wander too close to the water after dark. Entire church sermons were dedicated to “the thing sleeping beneath Saint Delphine,” though nobody spoke of it directly outside cathedral walls. Lorenzo grew up inside candlelit halls lined with medical texts, funeral portraits, and journals written by relatives long dead. His father taught anatomy. His grandmother taught scripture. Both warned him that knowledge carried a price.He became obsessed with understanding the human body early in life not only its functions, but its weaknesses. Illness. Death. Desire. Fear. He viewed humanity the same way priests viewed confession: something sacred once opened properly.By 1893, Lorenzo had begun secretly studying abandoned records connected to disappearances throughout Saint Delphine Parish. The journals described strange visions, flooded graves, impossible stars over the marsh, and an ancient presence hidden beneath the swamp water long before the parish itself existed. Most dismissed the writings as superstition. Lorenzo did not. In the summer of 1894, during a violent storm season, Lorenzo disappeared into the marshlands alone after discovering tunnels beneath the estate cemetery. He remained missing for eleven days. When he returned, he refused to explain where he had gone. Only that he was no longer afraid of death. Afterward, the changes became impossible to ignore. He stopped aging.His body healed unnaturally fast.Animals reacted violently to his presence.The estate itself seemed to respond to him — lights flickering when he became emotional, doors opening on their own, voices carrying through empty rooms. And hunger. Over the following century, Lorenzo isolated himself from the outside world while Saint Delphine slowly decayed around him. He studied medicine obsessively, collected theological writings from across the world, and filled countless journals attempting to understand what he had become.
